Grand Diamonds is the name of an adult precision skating team that is based in Stockholm, Sweden. We are a group of skaters who have rediscovered the joys of ice skating. With all but two of our skaters 27 years old or older, and our oldest skater 64 years old, we are 'oldies' in skating teams. However, we aim to prove in a big way that you are not 'past it' in ice skating terms even if you have reached the age of 25.

We skate at end of season exhibitions and other exhibitions or competitions. We have competed in the Swedish Team Skating Championships of 1996, 1997 and 1998. This following the introduction of a new 'Masters' class in these championships which allowed us to compete for the first time in 1996. The age requirement for this class is that all the skaters must be 21 years old or older and at least 75% of skaters should be 25 years old or older. The number of skaters permitted in competition is between 12 and 24. The Master class do not skate a compulsory program but instead compete in a free program which should be 3 minutes 30 seconds long plus/minus 10 seconds.

Team History

Grand Diamonds was formed in October 1995. To a large extent its skaters come from two ice skating clubs in Stockholm:-

Mälarhöjdens ice skating society (Mälarhöjdens skridskosällskap, MSS) and
Academical Figure Skating Club (Akademiska Konståkningsklubben, AKK).

Other members come from other skating clubs in Stockholm or are enthusiasts that have rediscovered ice skating.

An old dogWhich just goes to show that you can teach old dogs new tricks!

We are always looking for a chance to either compete or skate at exhibitions. We would welcome any information about other adult teams, either within Sweden or internationally, and about competitions where we could take part.
